Education: School and Student Sponsorships

Education: School and Student Sponsorships

Education is a major element of our mission. Most of the children we work with in Haiti have extraordinarily little or no financial support. Without the scholarship aid provided through our sponsorships, they would not be able to attend school.

Fontmara School, Port-au-Prince

                                      Fontmara school children
The Fontamara School was one of the first schools that was built by the partnership of the MEBB in Haiti and the original Haiti Task Force. Erected in the 1990s, this structure is built into the side of a hill in the Fontamara district of Port-au-Prince and occupies the lower floors under the Fontamara MEBB Church. The school serves over 200 children from pre-school through Grade 8.

A sponsorship of $240 helps pay for a uniform, some school supplies and helps pay the teachers’ salaries. A teacher earns approximately $125 a month during the school year.

Community School of Bellevue, Gressier

The Community School of Bellevue in Gressier, Haiti was founded in 2008 by a young man from the community, Maxo Michel, with a mission to provide education to the poorest and most vulnerable children in the community regardless of their ability to pay.   By 2013 the enrollment had grown to over 150 students and served grades K-6. More than half of the students have no ability to pay. Today the school serves over 300 children from grades K-8.

We are currently seeking sponsorships for students and schools for the upcoming school year. New sponsorships are always needed.
