The Rev. Robert L. Morgan, formerly of Niantic, CT died on Thursday June 1, 2023 at Ashlar Village.  Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Avery (Russell) Morgan, his three children, Carrie (Don) Burrier, Laura (Tom) Nealley, and Andrew Morgan; and 5 grandchildren, Marcus (Megan) Nealley, Cate Nealley, Stephen Burrier, Michelle Burrier, and Matthew (Kayla) Burrier.

He was born in Utica, NY and graduated from Rome Fee Academy and then Union College, going on to receive his Master’s of Divinity, and a Master’s of Sacred Theology from Yale Divinity School.  He was ordained by the United Church of Christ in 1957.  Bob served churches in Elyria and Dublin, OH before serving 3 years as a United States Army Chaplain, spending 13 months at the 121 Evacuation Hospital in Korea.  After the Army, Bob served as a chaplain at Yale New Haven Hospital for 28 years, retiring as the Director of the Spiritual Care Department.  

In retirement, Bob enjoyed serving the community through Meals on Wheels in East Lyme, and washing dishes at the New London Community Meal Center. During the winter he also enjoyed serving with Habitat for Humanity and the Deep Well Project on Hilton Head Island.  

There will be no calling hours at Bob’s request and all services will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to “Masonicare at Ashlar Village” please put “Scholarship Fund” on the memo line, mail to Frank Campbell, 114 Ashlar Village, Wallingford, CT, 06492.
