The Rev. Dr. Richard Aubin-Fischer

Passed on Friday, 31 March 2017
The Rev. Dr. Richard Aubin-Fischer died peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2017 in Westport, MA surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Gail Aubin-Fischer of Westport, MA; daughter Julie (Fischer) Thorpe and her husband Brian of Cranston, RI; son David Fischer of Providence, RI; daughter Tina McDonald and her husband Andrew Pacheco of Tiverton, RI; and daughter Heather (McDonald) Ellis and her husband Christian of Wareham, MA. He leaves 4 grandchildren: Adam, Jocelyn, Aden, and Benjamin.

He was a United Church of Christ minister for 50 years, receiving his Doctor of Ministry at Andover-Newton Theological School, and a longtime member of Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church in North Dartmouth, MA. He helped many people throughout his life as a psychologist, minister, pastoral counselor, preacher and teacher. In 2015, he was honored by the United Church of Christ at their Annual Meeting for 50 years of ordination.  He was a 25 year resident of Westport, MA and loved boating on the Westport and Slocum Rivers. He was solar powered, from barefoot and tanned childhood summers on Andover Lake, CT, to sunshine walks on the beaches of Westport. He loved to travel and learn about different cultures and instilled this love in his children. He was a lifelong activist for social justice and hosted two television shows: Face the Nation, and Healing Life’s Hurts, for over 20 years. He was an adventurous spirit, a dreamer of dreams, and lived life fully, embracing new experiences with gusto. He loved art, jazz and a bottle of good scotch. He will be remembered for his love of family, love of travel, being a gracious host, and his quick wit and sense of humor.

His life was celebrated at a Memorial Service at Smith Mills Congregational Church, 11 Anderson Way, North Dartmouth, MA, on April 29, 2017 at 11 am. We encourage you to bring your memories to share.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to Smith Mills Church, where he spent many years worshiping, learning from others and sharing his insights with the Wednesday Bible Study group.
