The Rev. Ms. Jennifer (Jena) Roy died peacefully at home on June 13, 2016, at age 49, having lived with cancer for more than four years. She was surrounded by immediate family who love her deeply.

The Rev. Roy was well known in the Massachusetts Conference for her ministry around stewardship. She served as a Conference Staff Stewardship Associate (2010-2011), led a Stewardship Community of Practice, preached and led workshops at many area UCC churches, and became a member of the Stewardship Commission and Lay Leadership Council of the Conference. A year ago, in recognition of her ministry, she became the first recipient of the Andy Gustafson Award, named for the Conference's previous Associate Conference Minister for Stewardship and Financial Development, who also died of cancer.

The Rev. Roy most recently worked as an interfaith chaplain at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and ministered to others walking with the Outdoor Church, counseling at the Children's Room, teaching at Germaine Lawrence and leading worship in many churches. She graduated from St. Paul Academy, Dartmouth College, and Andover Newton Theological School and was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Winchester, MA. She was ordained by the Metropolitan Boston Association on April 8, 2015.

She is survived by her two children, Max Roy Thompson of Tacoma, and Madeline Roy Thompson of Winchester, their father Marc Thompson, her mother Barbara Blanch Roy, her siblings Heidi (Robert) Hubbard, Beth (Oliver) Jenkyn, and Christopher (Amber) Roy, and a large extended family.

A service to celebrate her well-lived life was held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Winchester, 21 Church Street, Winchester, MA, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to honor Jena to the Music & Worship Arts Capital Fund for the First Congregational Church, 21 Church St., Winchester, MA 01890.
