The Rev. Dr. Stephen V. Weaver

The Rev. Dr. Stephen V. Weaver

Passed on Tuesday, 13 June 2017
The Rev. Dr. Stephen V. Weaver died in Concord, NH on June 13, 2017 after a period of failing health.   He is survived by two sons, Stephen V. Weaver Jr. and his children, Shannon Day and Stephen E. Weaver; and Mark Weaver and his wife, Heidi Duncanson, and their children, Andrew and Hope Weaver; and one daughter, Deborah Wesoja, and her children, Alex and Kristen Wesoja, and one great-granddaughter Johanna.

He received a Bachelor of Arts from Boston University, and a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard.  Ordained in 1953, he served UCC churches in Sharon, Springfield and Foxborough, MA, and then Keene, NH, later serving as a Conference Minister for the NH UCC.  After “retiring,” he also served the Croydon UCC church. He attained his doctorate in pastoral counseling from Andover Newton Theological Seminary, and in 1979 co-founded Pastoral Counseling Services in Manchester, now a statewide counseling service.  Never one to slow down, he semi-retired to Florida in 1992, losing Lena to cancer in January 1994.  He married Effie Southwood in late 1994, and lost her to cancer in 2003. He returned to New Hampshire in 2013 to reside at the Birches, due to advancing dementia, never losing his sense of humor or his love for others.

He was a wonderful husband, father, pastor, counselor, motorcyclist, golfer, camper (owning too many campers and RVs to count) and friend.  He was born to Ernest and Emma Weaver on June 10, 1926, in Hanover, Mass. They moved to Stoughton, where he attended the Stoughton schools, leaving high school to join the fight in World War II, enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps on Jan. 27, 1944, where he was trained to be a belly gunner in a B-17.

A celebration of life took place on July 15, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Keene. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Pastoral Counseling Services Inc. of Manchester.
