The Rev. Dr. Mary Louise (MaryLou) Howson passed away on October 13, 2019 at the age of 73 following a stroke. MaryLou is survived by her husband James Howson, her brother Ken Thorn, and her son James Howson, III. She had three grandchildren: Isaac, Elijah and Ava.
MaryLou earned degrees from Mt. Holyoke, Wesleyan, Yale Divinity School and Columbia Theological Seminary, where she earn her Doctor of Ministry. She was ordained in 1983. She served churches in Ridgefield, Bethany, Danbury, and Westport, as well as serving in New Jersey and as chaplain at Western Connecticut State University. She retired from full-time ministry in 2015. Prior to her ordination, MaryLou was as social studies teacher in Weston, CT.
Beyond the local church, MaryLou was a member of the CT Women of the UCC, a member of the Connecticut Conference's Evangelism and Church Growth Committee and Spiritual Development Network in 1984 and served on the executive committee in the Litchfield South Association. She was a devotional writer for the CT Conference from 2014 until 2018. In her spare time, she enjoyed embroidery, sewing, reading, and playing piano.
Services for Rev. Dr. Mary Louise Howson will be held on Friday, October 18, at St. David's Episcopal Church at 2:00 in Wayne, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of Mary Louise’s two favorite charities: the ASPCA and the American Stroke Society.
