The Rev. Dr. James M. Gustafson died on Friday, January 15, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Louise Roos Gustafson. He leaves 4 children: Karl Gustafson, Greta Roskom, John Gustafson and Birgitta Gustafson all of whom live and work in the Albuquerque area. He also leaves 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Born in Norway, MI to Swedish immigrant parents, he went on to serve in the army during WWII as a high speed radio operator in Burma. He then pursued what became an illustrious career as an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and professor of Christian Ethics at Yale University, University of Chicago, and finally Emory University in Atlanta. He authored many books and articles and inspired countless students in his 45 years of teaching. He served the Northford Congregational Church in Northford, CT in 1951 while working on his Doctorate at Yale.
