The Rev. Aubrey L. Murphy,  Associate Minister Emeritus of the First Congregational Church of Bristol, died on Aug. 30, 2016. He was 97.

The Rev. Murphy was the beloved husband of the late Adah (Spears) Murphy. He died at home in East Granby surrounded by his family. Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, son of William and Lydia (Spinney) Murphy, he was raised there and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.

The Rev. Murphy received his Bachelor of Divinity from Acadia University and his Master's in Christian Education from Hartford Seminary Foundation. He served a church Alberta, Canada, and served churches in New Britain, Westport, Old Saybrook and North Greenwich, Connecticut. He then served for 21 years as Associate Minister for the First Congregational Church of Bristol, where he was honored with the title Associate Minister Emeritus upon his retirement. He has been a member of the East Granby Congregational Church for the past 18 years that he has lived in the community.

He leaves his daughter, Adah M. Dionne of East Granby; two grandchildren Nolan Dionne (Merritt) and Krista Dionne; and a sister, Marjorie Modoono of Lexington, MA. Besides his wife he was predeceased by two brothers Russell and Victor Murphy. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016. Burial will be private.
