The Rev. Ms. Marjorie A. Scott

The Rev. Ms. Marjorie A. Scott

Passed on Thursday, 29 January 2009

Dear Friends,

With great sadness for the loss to us, and gratitude for her life and grace, I share the sad news that Marjorie Scott passed away last night (January 29, 2009). We give thanks for her resilient spirit and strong body which fought multiple ailments over many years. We especially give thanks for the community of dear friends, church members and care providers who have journeyed so far with her. We ask that God’s grace would be close around all of us as we mourn.

Marjorie had been very sick for a long time, and had recently moved to hospice care at the Stone Institute in Newton. However, her passing at this particular time is still hard. One grace in the midst of it is that a number of her closest friends were able to be with her yesterday and through the night. One of her strong wishes was that she have the company of friends through this time. The song that runs through my head today is one that she shared has been especially meaningful to her in recent months:

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling
Calling to you and to me
Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling
Calling, O daughter, come home
Come home, come home
All who are weary come home

May Marjorie dwell in God’s peace; may God’s peace be with us all.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Marjorie Scott is being planned for Saturday, February 7 at 4 p.m. at Church of the Covenant. A reception of coffee and cookies will follow in Bates Hall to continue remembering her and sharing stories together.

Please share this invitation with others you may know who are friends or colleagues. If people are unfamiliar with Covenant, you might suggest they look at the directions on the website at www.churchofthecovenant.org. And of course, we always recommend public transportation so there is no parking worry.

We will look forward to sharing this time together to remember, to be comforted, and to give thanks for the ways Marjorie’s life touched our own.

Peace in Christ,
Rev. Jennifer Wegter-McNelly
