A memorial service to honor the Rev. William Orin Whitaker, Jr., of Brewster, 83, who died peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on June 23, 2009, will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Federated Church of Orleans, 162 Main Street, East Orleans (508-255-3060).

Rev. Whitaker served churches in Chatham, Passaic, New Jersey, and New Britain, Connecticut, before retiring in Brewster. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He also was an accomplished watercolorist and illustrator, and a Korean War veteran.

His survivors include his wife, Bernadine; two daughters, Leslie Whitaker and Sarah Whitaker; son-in-law, Michael Fendrich; grandson, Benjamin Fendrich; and granddaughter, Alexandra Fendrich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund, Central New England Chapter, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 845945, Boston, MA 02284-5945.
