New Transitional Minister Is Settling In

The Rev. Marilyn Baugh Kendrix began as the new Transitional Conference Minister for the Rhode Island Conference on July 1 and is in the midst of settling in to this new role.  While fulfilling the duties that have historically been those of the Conference Minister in Rhode Island, Marilyn will also work to help our churches transition into the new Together, As One Conference that the delegates and clergy voted into being at the Joint Tri-Conference Annual Meeting last month in Springfield, MA.  As a member of the Together, As One Planning Team, Marilyn arrives with an understanding of the mission and purpose of the new conference and is perfectly positioned to help the Rhode Island Conference live into this new conference. To that end, Marilyn will, along with the Conference Ministers in Connecticut and Massachusetts, work with the new TA1 Board of Directors with their charge to bring to reality the dreams of the planning team over the last three or more years.
The very first statement of the Together, As One Purpose Statement, focused on the local church, states that “the local church exists to make disciples of Jesus and we welcome all people unconditionally to share in this calling.”  The purpose statement continues to say that “We commit to making God’s love and justice real.  Marilyn is particularly excited about visiting with all the Rhode Island churches and getting to know the people and their pastors,  and learning about the ways that our churches are already making God’s love and justice real and helping them explore new ways for our churches to become justice leaders in their communities and beyond.   Marilyn says, “I am looking forward to preaching at each of our churches over the next few months so be ready to put me on your calendar!”
