Eighty percent of this year's Strengthen the Church offering, traditionally taken this Sunday - Pentecost Sunday - will benefit Faith Formation and Outdoor Ministries in the Conference, as well as supporting the Conference's new Center for Transformational Leadership. The other 20% will be used to support ministries in the national setting.
"If ever there was a time when our young people will need to learn about God’s enduring love, even in time of crisis, it is now," the Rev. Darrell Goodwin, Executive Conference Minister, said in a recent letter to churches. "We continue to support those ministries with this year’s offering. We will also be adding the Center for Transformational Leadership as one of the recipients of your generous gifts this year."
The work of the church is critical in our world for such a time as this," he said. "The investment in critical, thoughtful and transformative programmatic offerings from the Southern New England Conference for our churches, authorized ministers and covenant partners are essential. It is the essence of how we all can Be the Church that is relevant, transformative, and prophetic. This year’s Strengthen the Church offering is more than a stewardship opportunity, it is an invitation to continue to lay the foundation for a conference that truly sets the region and world ablaze through the Love and Justice of Jesus."
In the letter, Rev. Goodwin and the Rev. David Cleaver-Bartholomew, Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations, added: "As we begin to emerge from this time of unprecedented challenge and change, the need to strengthen our churches is greater than ever. The Southern New England Conference is responding to your requests for new, innovative tools and resources that you requested to do the transformative work that we, as the Church, are called to do - in our churches, our communities and our world. This new Center is your Center."
