Siladi: Day McCallister Leaving Staff for Call to Local Church Ministry

Editor's note: The following letter was sent via US Mail to Connecticut Conference churches on April 10, 2017.  Read Rev. Day's reflections on her time on staff.

Dear Members and Friends of the CTUCC Conference:
I am blessed to work with a dedicated staff team who work tirelessly to carry out the mission of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ.  My staff colleagues have over the last years aligned as a team around our vision of interdependence.  I am blessed to serve with them.

We all know that change is a constant in the life of faith.  I wanted to make you aware of a staff change that is now upon us.

With a mixture of sadness and joy I have received the resignation of Rev. Da Vita McCallister as the Associate Conference Minister of Leadership and Vitality.  Rev. McCallister has been a member of the Conference staff for the past nine years and she has had an impressive ministry of impact in her time on the staff.  For seven years she served as the ACM for Youth and Young Adults.  She was the creator of the Thinking about Working for God program and the Giv2 ministry.  She has led and organized our Youth and All Conference Revivals. For the past two years she has served in a newly created position to help us address our staff priorities of leadership and vitality.  Her leadership in our racial justice ministry has transformed our Conference and we are recognized as a leader in this ministry across the United Church of Christ.   Her founding of the Joseph D. Clemmons Job Training program has transformed the lives of young persons of color.  She is one of the authors of the UCC curriculum on White Privilege. Day has touched so many people with her outstanding preaching, gifted teaching and commitment to the work of justice making.  She has been a trusted colleague and a cherished member of our staff.  She will be sorely missed.

The joy I share is that Rev. McCallister has been called to serve as the pastor of a local congregation that will be deciding soon to call her to a new Senior Pastor position.  Out of respect for that congregation’s process the news of the actual church will be made public once the church has finished its discernment process.  Through prayer and discernment Day has said "yes" to the call of God to lead a congregation of the United Church of Christ.  The church will indeed be blessed by the abundance of gifts that Day will bring to the congregation.

Rev. McCallister's last day is May 26th.  I welcome you to a time of worship and celebration of her ministry on May 28th at Faith Congregational Church in Hartford at 3:00 PM. Contributions for a gift may be made payable to “Missionary Society of CT” and sent to Emily McKenna at 125 Sherman Street, Hartford, CT 06105.  Single sided letters of remembrance may be sent to Cecile Gilson at 125 Sherman Street, Hartford, CT 06105 or

I invite your prayers for Rev. McCallister as she makes this transition to a new call and ministry.  We give God thanks for her leadership and passion for the Gospel.
