In March, the Rev. Timothy Haut celebrated 40 years serving as pastor of the First Congregational Church of Deep River, Connecticut. During those many years, Haut has built a relationship with the church that fosters trust and space for personal growth.
The video below is an interview conducted by the Southern New England Conference's Digital Media Editor, Drew Page. Page and Haut discuss the reasons for Haut's longevity, relationship building, making mistakes, and the greatest moments of pastoring a church for 40 years.
Haut is approaching fifty years of ordained ministry, 40 of them in Deep River. He is the longest continuously serving pastor in the Southern New England Conference. Yet he still runs two Sunday morning services, writes grants, and tries new approaches to ministry whenever he has the chance, all while writing poems for each Sunday bulletin and editing a book of poetry that was just published.
"I still feel like there's things to do," said Haut.
