Registration Open for Service and Learning Trip to Cheyenne River Reservation

Share
Registration is now open for a service and learning trip to the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota.

The Connecticut Conference is again partnering with Simply Smiles to offer this life-transforming opportunity to live and work in the Lakota community of LaPlant, South Dakota. Trip dates are May 12 through May 19. Activities will include community improvement projects, running an afternoon summer camp for children (yes, school is out on the reservation on May 14), and hosting community meals. There will be many opportunities to make and renew friendships with Lakota families living in LaPlant.  More of information is available at simplysmiles.org.

Participants of the May trip will be among the first volunteer groups staying in the new volunteer bunkhouse. The 2017 Conference group broke ground on this project.

“This is a powerful experience,” comments trip coordinator Charlie Kuchenbrod, who will be returning to the reservation for the ninth time. “The best testimony is the large proportion of people who go back to the reservation multiple times, often bringing family members and close friends with them. It becomes a part of who you are.”

The trip will cost approximately $1200. Many churches provide financial support for their members. A $200 dollar, mostly refundable, deposit will be due in early February and full payment will be due by early April. For more information about the trip or to register, contact Charlie Kuchenbrod at charliek@ctucc.org or 860.761.7111.
