One-Day Camp Event at Irons Homestead

Area Churches in Rhode Island are coming together to collaborate a One-day Camp Event to start the summer off with faith building and fun fellowship! On Tuesday, June 29th, 3rd-8th graders from the Seekonk Congregational Church, First United Congregational Church, Middletown and Chapel Street Congregational Church are arriving bright and early to begin a 12-hour experience from 8:00AM to 8:00PM at Irons Homestead Camp & Retreat Center in Gloucester, RI.  The idea of creating a One-day Camp option seemed to be the perfect solution for these youth leaders to fully engage with their youth in the outdoors without imposing on the many different family schedules as more places start to open up with pandemic restrictions lessening.

Nestled in the northwest corner of Rhode Island, Irons Homestead is a breathtaking natural resource of the Southern New England Conference, with 102 acres filled with amazing surprises in nature for young people to discover. The Rev. Chontell Washington, Historic RI Outdoor Ministry Committee Chairwoman sits by a cozy fire on the pavilion in a recent video for Camp Irons. Her words are truthful.

“There is no denying the beauty and peacefulness of Irons Homestead.  In every direction you can see God’s work.  It is really something special to see. I encourage you to set aside some time to come, you are invited here!”

Campers will begin the day with “get to know you” activities and then will have an opening interactive worship at the outside chapel area.  Other activities will involve exploring on the nature trails to find God’s gifts in hidden places, playing in the volleyball pit, hanging from the tire swing, weaving & wax painting, walking the woodland labyrinth and contributing to onsite service work. This One-day Camp experience is not complete without time to swim at the fantastic waterfront area that has a large walk around dock with an additional separate floating dock further out.  Campers will enjoy special snack time together, as well as lunch and supper at the outside pavilion. Regardless of the weather, rain or shine, there are many areas to investigate even with an umbrella! The final activity of the One-day Camp Event concludes with a family campfire.  Parents and siblings are invited to arrive for the last hour to enjoy a campfire with their child, listen to camp songs and roast marshmallows for yummy s’mores.

Are you feeling as though a One-day Camp experience is just the perfect idea for your youth? Look at your calendars now and start planning! Irons Homestead has flexible schedules and affordable rates including overnight opportunities as well.  There is fishing and boating to add to your incredible One-day Camp adventure.  Contact Kate Ostertag for more information and to register a group. http://Ostertagk@sneucc.org  or call: (508) 810-4564
