Several Massachusetts and Connecticut Conference clergy joined more than a thousand other progressive Christians in a Washington DC demonstration on May 24 which is part of the larger Reclaiming Jesus movement.

The service and procession was led by Bishop Michael Curry, the Episcopal minister who catapulted to fame preaching on love at the royal wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.  Other leaders included Walter Brueggemann, Cynthia Hale and Jim Wallace.

According to press reports, between 1,000 and 2,000 Christian leaders gathered at the National City Christian Church for a rousing service, and then walked a mile, in silence and holding candles, to Lafayette Square, a park facing the White House.

Many New England clergy were in the area for the Festival of Homiletics held prior to this service and demonstration.

"This was powerful to be a part of," said Marisa Brown Ludwig, "More than 1,000 clergy from the Festival of Homiletics and local community walked in silence with candles held high and sang the Lord’s Prayer out front of the White House."

Some of those in attendance with Ludwig were Tom Gerstenlauer, Philomena Hare, Mary Perry, Diane Anderson, Dawn Glenney Adams, Ian Holland, Susan Gibson, Laura Gronberg and Matthew McCaffrey.
