Introducing Rev. Dr. Audrey Price

After just over two weeks serving on the staff of the Southern New England Conference, the Rev. Dr. Audrey Price understands that a lot of people are unclear on what it means that she is the "Executive Minister for Strategic Operations."

"Here in the Southern New England Conference, we are doing a new thing. Part of doing a new thing is standing up a new leadership paradigm. My position exists nowhere else in the entirety of the United Church of Christ," she said in a video greeting she has released to the Conference.

Dr. Price explains that in her role, she stewards three main ministry concentration areas: Outdoor Ministries, Discipleship Ministries and the Area Conference Minister team.

"This is a tremendous work to be doing, and I am blessed to have a great staff engaged in all of these efforts. Therefore, I'm striving to cultivate an environment and a culture that embodies the four-part vision of the Southern New England Conference, to make disciples of Christ, make God's love and justice real, bring new life as agents of change, and form covenant partnerships," she said.

In her video, she also said she prefers to be addressed as the Rev. Dr. Price.

"Why? Because persons in my embodiment, a female of African descent who has achieved a PhD in systematic theology with a focus on liberation theology, are often discounted and marginalized," she said. "I know well the attempts to marginalize and minoritize people solely because of their God-given identity, based upon their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual identity, able-bodiedness, and other ways that God has uniquely fashioned us."

Rev. Dr. Price said she is called "to both the church and the academy" and is currently teaching an online course at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. entitled "Theological Conversations for Dismantling Racism," a course that she designed based upon the UCC national curriculum, "Sacred Conversations to End Racism."

Rev. Dr. Price said she would welcome invitations to preach across the Conference.

"I look forward to visiting the churches in the Southern New England Conference virtually and eventually in person. Being among you is important to me because it will inform how I best should steward the implementation of Conference ministries, nurturing and promoting the vision of this Conference," she said.
