Interim Regional Minister Comes Onboard - Remotely

The Rev. Holly MillerShank began serving this week as the Interim Associate Conference Minister for the Metropolitan Boston and Northeast Associations - albeit, from her current home in Cleveland, Ohio.

"Working remotely is par for the course for our little family," she said. "My husband Jonathan specializes in terrazzo flooring and for over a decade has been the working foreman for any of the out of town jobs for his company. This has meant extended stints in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Boston."

MillerShank's family had initially intended to relocate to the Boston area at this time. But her husband's upcoming jobs in Somerville and Medford have been put on hold by the pandemic, so they and their three-year-old daughter will wait until things stabilize before making a move.

The Conference's entire staff is currently working from home; Association meetings and pastoral searches are all going on virtually at this time.

The Rev. MillerShank most recently served as Interim Pastor at Olmsted Community Church, just outside Cleveland, Ohio. She said leading a church through Holy Week and Easter during the pandemic.has given her first-hand insight into what many local clergy and congregations have been experiencing.

Prior to her time there, she served in the national UCC setting as the team leader for MESA (Ministerial Excellence, Support and Authorization), overseeing the development of the new Manual on Ministry and an updated Search and Call process. Her team at the national setting provided support and guidance to Committees on Ministry, Interim Ministry training, and development for Members in Discernment and formation. She continues to serve on the Board of the Interim Ministry Network.

MillerShank was "introduced" to the entire staff during an online meeting on May 5; in-person introductions will take place sometime down the road.

"We are thrilled to have Holly join our staff," said Bridge Conference Minister Don Remick. "She has an exceptional amount of knowledge from her ministry in the national UCC setting and the local church.  She brings a wealth of insight and wisdom.  And all of this comes with a smile that is genuine and heartwarming."

MillerShank can be reached at With a young child at home, she is working her hours early in the morning, and then later in the afternoon and evening.
