Interim Called for Metro Boston and Northeast Associations

The Rev. Holly MillerShank, who has been deeply involved in shaping the denomination's process that matches clergy with their ministries, has agreed to serve as the Interim Associate Conference Minister for the Metropolitan Boston and Northeast Associations.

"Holly is known to many of us. She brings a wealth of wisdom and insight and experience into this ministry," said Bridge Conference Minister the Rev. Don Remick.

"For the past several years she has served in our national UCC offices as the team leader for MESA (Ministerial Excellence, Support and Authorization)," he said. "During that time she oversaw faithful and significant adaptive changes. A new Manual on Ministry was researched, developed and shared across the UCC. This was the first full update in over three decades. She helped in the shaping of an updated Search and Call process. This included the new Local Church Profile that foundationally changes the way we search for pastors.  Her team has provided support and guidance to Committees on Ministry, Interim Ministry training, and development for Members in Discernment and formation."

The Rev. MillerShank has most recently served as Interim Pastor at Olmsted Community Church, just outside Cleveland, Ohio.

"I am very much looking forward to stepping into this interim role to assist clergy and congregations, I believe my skill set both in the national setting of the UCC and as an intentional interim minister will allow me to hit the ground running," MillerShank said. "I am particularly excited to witness first hand the transformative work of the Southern New England Conference."

MillerShank said it is a good time for her to make a move to New England.

"My partner Jonathan specializes in terrazzo floors. He recently completed a project in the John Hancock tower and has contracts for the Somerville School District and Tufts Library," she said. "We are happy that our small family will be together in this season and celebrate God's unfolding work in the world."

The Rev. Wendy Vander Hart recently announced that she will be leaving her position as Associate Conference Minister for the Metropolitan Boston and Northeast Associations after more than 12 years on the staff. She will begin serving as Interim Senior Minister at First United Church of Christ in Northfield, MN, on March 29.

MillerShank will officially begin on May 4th. During the gap before her arrival, support will be provided to the churches and clergy and Association leadership through the regional staff and through the Rev. Don Remick, Bridge Conference Minister of Innovation.  Holly will continue in this role until a settled regional staff person is called.

"Please welcome Holly to our ministry together and hold her in your prayers as she begins this chapter," Remick said.
