In Easter Message, Executive Conference Minister Calls on Churches to Rise

In a video released Easter morning, Executive Conference Minister the Rev. Darrell Goodwin gave the following message:

Good morning friends. Truly day is breaking as we begin to celebrate this Resurrection Sunday, this day where we honor that Jesus Christ himself did indeed rise. He rose to give us this sense of triumph. He rose to give us this sense of authority over all things that might be standing against us. So our churches in the Southern New England conference, my encouragement to you is to rise with the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. Know that that same spirit is living and breathing within each and every one of you.

As we look towards this post Resurrection moment, I want you to be reminded that we are yet commanded to rise. In this moment we are commanded to rise against homophobia and transphobia. In this moment, we are called to rise against increasing poverty of those who are on the margins and who are most marginalized. We are called to rise against racism that continues to show itself. We are meant to rise as more and more laws to restrict people for being just who God has created them to be, seem to be passing. And yet, even in the midst of those passing, we see other governors who are vetoing the same kind of rules. We are called to rise. When there's a larger rhetoric that says the church is indeed dying, yet we know that there are bursts of light all around us.

So I invite you this day, on this Resurrection Sunday, that you rise. That we learn how to be over 600 churches, 1600 authorized ministers and 120,000 of God's faithful, that we are committed to letting the love and justice of Jesus rise in Southern New England. And who knows if we know how to work together, how to pray together, how to walk together, how to rise together we just might change the world. Blessings on this Resurrection Sunday. May you rise in heart and mind and spirit, may you rise knowing that you can triumph over all things, may you rise knowing that the spirit that raised Jesus from the dead also dwells in you.

Blessings on this day and the days ahead. Rise.
