The Southern New England Conference has set Jan. 15 as the deadline for churches to apply for the first round of the Faith In Our Future Together Grant program, and an online informational session for those interested is being held on Nov. 19 at 4:30 PM. The session will provide a brief overview of the program, application process and timeline, criteria for evaluating applications, and include time for questions and answers

Faith In Our Future Together is a recoverable grant program is to help selected local churches respond effectively to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing that the disruptions may be magnified by systemic racism in congregations of Black people, indigenous people and other people of color.

If the first round of applicants does not exhaust the available funds, there will be an additional round or rounds of applications.

“Based on early indications of interest, our best guess is that there will be multiple rounds of applications, and we won’t know for sure until applications are received,” said Kari Nicewander, chair of the committee overseeing the program.

That committee, appointed by the Board of Directors, includes:
  • Rev. Kari Nicewander, chair, Senior Pastor Immanuel Congregational Church, Hartford, CT
  • Rev. Alison Buttrick Patton, Pastor, Saugatuck Congregational Church, Westport, CT
  • Irene Hope, Beneficent Congregational Church, Providence, RI
  • Rev. Dan Smith, Senior Pastor, First Church in Cambridge MA
  • Alice Turner, Liberty Christian Center International, Hartford, CT
The committee is supported by two staff people, Rev. Dr. Donique McIntosh, Minister for Racial Justice, and Charlie Kuchenbrod, Executive Associate Conference Minister.

Registration for the information session is here.

“We encourage congregations to participate in this call to get their questions answered. Our goal is to support congregations as they prepare proposals for programs or projects that advance our shared mission,” said Alice Turner, who is also Founder and CEO of URISE Ventures.
