Conference Launches Search for Regional ACM

The Massachusetts Conference is launching a search for a half-time Associate Conference Minister whose focus will be to minister to the ministry of the churches in the southeast region of the Conference.

The position has been posted to the national UCC Ministry Opportunities.  Conference Minister and President The Rev. Dr. Jim Antal and Board of Directors Chair Corey Sanderson have recruited the following members for the search committee:
  • Chair: Angie Menke Ballou, Pastor of Cotuit Federated Church, Cotuit
  • Board Representative: Philomena Hare, Interim Pastor at the Federated Church of Hyannis
  • Greta MacRae, Pastor, Lakeville United Church of Christ
  • Paul Thomas, member of Old South Union Church, Weymouth
  • Ex officio: Jim Antal
This person would assume the position currently held by The Rev. Don Remick, who will become the Transitional Interim Minister and President upon Antal's retirement on July 1.  Remick will be moving into that position following the vote at the June Annual Meeting formalizing the formation of a new Conference in unity with the Connecticut and Rhode Island conferences. An application and full job description for the ACM post can be found here:

"Our four ACMs with Regional Responsibility work together as innovators and as agents of transformation," the UCC listing states. "They promote and provoke clarity of vision, leadership development and prophetic witness among our churches and clergy."

The following is a partial description of the "nature and scope" of the position:

"Associate Conference Ministers serve the God we know in Jesus Christ through the United Church of Christ as agents of transformation. In working with pastors, lay leaders, congregations and Associations they identify leaders, link people with appropriate resources, and facilitate lateral relationships within and beyond their regions that will nurture church vitality and the covenant among the churches. They articulate, promote and celebrate the values of the UCC and the beliefs of the UCC along with those that distinguish the Massachusetts Conference."

Addendum Jan. 31, 2018:  The search is for a part-time Associate Conference Minister, even though Remick is currently serving full-time, because the new ACM would only be taking on the responsibility of working with the churches and clergy in the southeast area. Remick also has numerous Conference-wide responsibilities.
