Conference hires new climate justice intern

Alyssa Browning-GrayThe Massachusetts Conference has taken on a new climate justice intern. Alyssa Browning-Gray began on Monday, and will serve the Conference through June, 2016.

Browning-Gray is a member of Newman Congregational Church, a Rhode Island UCC congregation. She recently graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science and religious studies. She is feeling a call to ministry and planning to attend seminary.

"Her time with the Massachusetts Conference is a time of discernment for her and a blessing for us," said Conference Minister and President Jim Antal.
Browning-Gray will work to support the New England Regional Environmental Ministries (NEREM), build the Conference's environmental networks, and increase the capacity of folks in the Conference to take personal and political action for the environment.

The Massachusetts Conference first hired a climate justice intern - Patrick Cage - a year ago using funds from the Friends of the Conference appeal, which supports projects that are not funded through the Conference’s regular budget.  Cage also served for six months. Following his tenure, an anonymous donor came forward and offered the funds to pay for the next climate intern.

"I am thrilled to have begun my service as climate justice intern for the MACUCC," Browning-Gray said. "My resume is filled with various laboratory, greenhouse, and field research positions, since I was pursuing science until I felt called to ministry. Before I undertake seminary, in this time of discernment, I am delighted to work with you all at the intersection of science and religion.  I am so excited to serve Massachusetts congregations and help us respond to climate change as our faith dictates."
