Conference Cancels Events; Shuts Offices

Out of concern for the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, the Bridge Conference Ministers have instructed staff to cancel Conference sponsored events and gatherings for the next 30 days, or to move them online.

"The risk of the spread of the virus to participants or through them to others seemed too high, particularly for the high risk categories which encompass many of our church members," said Bridge Conference Minister Don Remick.

The Bridge Conference Ministers have also closed the Conference offices through next week, instructing staff to work from home. Silver Lake Conference Center has closed to groups for the next 30 days, and has cancelled several events.  Staff can be reached via email, and will be regularly checking voicemail.

The cancellation of Super Saturday was announced earlier in the week, although some workshop leaders plan to offer their workshops online to those who had registered for them. Confirmation retreats have been cancelled, and other events have been postponed or moved online. Staff have been instructed that even small meetings should be moved online when possible.

The time-frame for cancellations will be reviewed regularly and updated as new information arrives.

In addition, the Conference staff have received the following instructions:
  • All business-related travel domestically should be limited, and international travel curtailed. If traveling internationally for personal reasons to places where the virus has spread, staff will need to quarantine for 14 days or get a doctor's note to return to work.
  • Conferences, seminars, workshops, etc. - particularly with attendees from a wide geographic area - should be attended virtually only.
  • Conference facilities will be sanitized more regularly, particularly high touch surfaces. Hand sanitizer will be made available to staff. It is the responsibility of staff to ensure their safety by maintaining good hygiene at all times and to do all they can to minimize exposure for others.
  • Quarantine guidelines shall be followed as required.
