Dawn Sorensen (she/they) |
Dawn Sorensen, administrator for the Office of Ministry Studies at Harvard Divinity School, has been hired as the new part-time Program Support Associate for the Southern New England Conference's Center for Transformational Leadership. Dawn (she/they) attended Andover Newton Theological School, and is certified in Faith Formation and Youth Ministry by the SNEUCC. Dawn serves on the planning team for the New England Association of United Church Educators, and is a deacon at Edwards Church in Framingham, MA.
"I am thrilled to be able to welcome Dawn to the Center for Transformational Leadership team," said the Rev. Heather Ramsey-Mabrouk, CTL Director. "Dawn brings a wide variety of experience to this role and is an amazing addition to the Center for Transformational Leadership team and the Conference staff as a whole. In addition to technical skills like social media marketing, data management, and top-notch writing skills, Dawn brings an intricate knowledge and deep love of the Church. Their passion for inclusivity, justice and dignity for all aligns with the mission of SNEUCC and will allow the CTL to further deepen its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the many aspects of its work with churches, lay leaders and authorized ministers."
As the Program Support Associate for the Center for Transformational Leadership, Dawn will provide support for the various learning programs such as Lunch & Learns and Author Talks. She will handle event registrations, manage promotion of CTL events, connect with wisdom leaders who are leading programs and will be the point of contact for Innovation Now!, the monthly newsletter for the CTL. They will also receive general questions about leadership development programs, Clergy Communities of Practice, curated resources and the process for church accompaniment for those at a threshold moment or in need of information about the legacy journey.
Sorensen said her youth leadership experience centers on a deeper commitment to racial justice, accessibility justice, mental & spiritual advocacy and wellness, and LGBTQ+ justice. Sorensen is a life-long activist who has led and developed a number of LGBTQ+ organizations and recently co-founded Southborough Safe Spaces, a non-profit organization for LGBTQ+ youth. They are also a union representative with the Harvard Union of Clerical & Technical Workers.
