Cheshire Church, Faith Community Partners form Creation Care Group

Share
In 2021, First Congregational Church of Cheshire, Conn. joined with people from their town’s Episcopal, United Methodist, and Reform Jewish congregations to form a collaboration known as Cheshire Creation Care, an interfaith group committed to explore, discover, and restore life-affirming relationships with all of Creation.

The launch of the CCC occurred last spring with a weekend of events: a talk on sustainable gardening, a vernal pool walk, a free give-or-take event, a dance and dialogue presentation, and the Sunday school children crafting “Turtle Crossing” signs that were then placed strategically around Cheshire.

Last fall, a CCC partner, the Coalition for a Sustainable Cheshire, hosted the second annual Sustainability Fair on the green in front of Cheshire’s First Congregational Church. Cheshire Creation Care’s booth featured “Is this recyclable?” to help community members understand recycling policies in their town. Local and regional organizations that also showcased their work included the Friends of Boulder Knoll Farm, Mill River Watershed Association, Cheshire Pollinator Pathway, Cheshire Land Trust, Sunrise CT, Quinnipiac Valley Audubon Society, and the Cheshire Environment Commission.

Early this year, Cheshire Creation Care hosted an event bringing together town officials and secular environmental organizations to network and explore ways to work together and get out of their individual silos.

For Earth Day, Cheshire Creation Care plans to build on the relationships developed this year, promote a townwide litter pickup, and sponsor an Earth Day rally on the Church Green!
