Willie SordilloWillie Sordillo, who has served as the assistant to the Conference Minister and President for the past 11 years, has left the staff to join former Associate Conference Minister Susan Dickerman in the newly forming Pastoral Excellence Network program being funded by the Lilly Endowment.  (Read more about this program here.)

Sordillo first came on the staff as the assistant to Nancy Taylor, and stayed on through the interim leadership of Stephen Sterner and then current Minister and President Jim Antal.

"I feel honored to have supported the visionary work of leaders like Nancy and Jim," Sordillo said. "I am equally grateful for and inspired by the incredible dedication and talent of our Associate Conference Ministers who work closely with local churches and empower our programs, stewardship, communications and business concerns.  We’ve also got the best support staff imaginable, and I will miss coming to work with them on a daily basis."

Sordillo said he is excited to be working in the formative stages of taking the Pastoral Excellence program national.

"I'm excited by the challenges of being in on the ground floor and having a role in shaping it.  Though much is yet to be defined, the door is open for me to step into some different roles than I’ve been able to in my current position," he said.

Conference Minister and President Jim Antal said he will miss Sordillo's " ready humor, cool demeanor and hopeful vision."

“Working with Willie over the past seven years has been the greatest of blessings!  Not only is he enormously skilled, but his sensibilities to the people and the challenges of this ministry are phenomenal," Antal said. "I was encouraged and supported by Willie’s activist instincts, and the integrity he brings to his work is incredible. Thanks be to God he will continue to apply his skills to the critical work of the Pastoral Excellence Network.”

Sordillo has been a familiar face around the Conference for many years, performing on his saxophone at numerous Annual Meetings, and at larger events such as the Amistad Celebration and the Celebrating Call event.  He also performs as a guest musician in many local churches at jazz worship services, U2charists, installations and ordinations and private functions and leads the music for a weekly jazz worship service at Old South Church in Boston.  Sordillo said he will continue with these performances "as long as the invitations keep coming."
