Massachusetts Women's Fellowship Dissolved

On June 18, 2011, at the recommendation of the Board of Directors, the 212th Annual Meeting of the Massachusetts Conference voted to amend the bylaws of the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ by deleting Article X:

The Massachusetts Women's Fellowship, United Church of Christ, is an auxiliary organization of the Conference established to undergird the program of the Conference and its churches by (1) encouraging women to grow to full stature as mature Christians; (2) enlisting women in a closer fellowship of Christian love; and (3) encouraging the participation of women in the life and work of the whole church.

The Fellowship shall make an annual report to the Conference. The Fellowship shall organize itself and set its own rules, providing they are not in conflict with these Bylaws.

During 2010, the Massachusetts Women’s Fellowship Board of Directors voted to dissolve as of July 1, 2011. They made this decision because the churches of the Conference, with a handful of exceptions, no longer maintain organized Women’s Fellowship groups, leaving no role for a statewide Board.

The Massachusetts Women’s Fellowship Board of Directors further voted to transfer their remaining assets to the Dorcas Society of the Pentecostal Church of Chile, with whom they have been in partnership for more than twenty years.

Therefore, the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Conference, United Church of Christ proposes that the Annual Meeting amend the Conference bylaws accordingly.

Revised Massachusetts Conference Bylaws are available online.
