How To Help Survivors of Tornadoes and Flooding

Share

In response to the suffering in our country in the aftermath of recent tornadoes and flooding,  the United Church of Christ, through its Wider Church Ministries, has organized ways for individuals and churches to aid in recovery efforts.  The UCC has issued a $250,000 Spring Storms Appeal to assist with long-term recovery efforts, but much more will be needed.  Please give generously.  One Great Hour of Sharing has sent a total of $10,000 to UCC churches in the hardest-hit areas to assist with the local recovery effort.

An important partner in disaster response is Church World Service.  CWS has sent thousands of clean up buckets and hygiene kits to areas impacted. While all these materials are donated, shipping is not free…the UCC is sending $5,000 from OGHS to support these efforts. Your congregation is encouraged to assist with preparing clean-up kits.

The UCC with local partners will also be looking for Disaster Recovery Volunteers, as work groups, to help repair homes in storm-damaged areas. When communities are ready for this next stage, information about ways to get involved will be posted on the UCC website.

These efforts are endorsed by the Commission for Mission and Justice.
