The Massachusetts Conference has released a Study Guide for Three Cups of Tea in anticipation of the May 3rd event featuring the book's author, Greg Mortenson. The guide is designed to facilitate conversation around Mortenson's books and work and includes materials appropriate for children and youth as well as for adult faith formation.

The study guide can be downloaded here: www.macucc.org/threecups.

An Evening with Greg Mortenson: Promoting Peace through Education  will be held Tuesday, May 3, at 6:30 PM at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. This event, which is open to the public, is being sponsored by the Conference's Pastoral Excellence Program in conjunction with the Worcester Area Mission Society and the First Baptist Church of Worcester.

The study guide was developed by Associate Conference Minister Don Remick, with input from the book's authors and the assistance of Associate Conference Minister Susan Dickerman and Resource Center Director Martha Cook.

Some of its suggested uses are:

  1. Holding a special Lenten Study, perhaps with a meal of food from the region.
  2. Integrating the material into regular Bible study, church school or youth ministry programs.
  3. Using the guide as outreach into the community by offering a book study at the local library or coffee or sandwich shop.
  4. Hosingt an intergenerational evening or after church event or a trip to Worcester to hear Mortenson.

Greg Mortenson is the co-founder and Executive Director of the nonprofit Central Asia Institute and founder of Pennies for Peace. Central Asia Institute’s mission is to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

During his talk on May 3rd, Mr. Mortenson will share insights into his life as well as anecdotes about building schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The event will start off with inspirational music from the Worcester Children’s Chorus and will conclude with a reception and book signing opportunity.Proceeds from the event will support the building of a school in Afghanistan and fund after school programs in Worcester sponsored by the Community Ministry Fund (CMF).
