HARTFORD (01/25/2016) -- While visiting the Connecticut Conference earlier this month, the Rev. Sandhya Rani Jha, Director of the Oakland Peace Center and author of Pre-Post-Racial America: Spiritual Stories from the Front Lines, joined Conference Minister the Rev. Kent Siladi for an episode of Vantage Point. In the edition released today, they spoke of how the church can become part of building a post-racist society.

"I think we shouldn't be aspiring to post-racial, because I think there's something powerful about our racial and cultural backgrounds that actually have a lot to offer each other," said Rev. Jha, whose cultural inheritances come from a Bengali father and a Scottish mother. "The language I would use is anti-racist, because I believe that racism is a sin in this country that will continue to crop up in multiple different manifestations."

"I think the call for us is to be anti-racist," she told Siladi. "That's the only way that we can maybe, someday, be post-racist."

"It might be a Moses thing," he responded, referring to the Biblical tradition that Moses died before entering the Promised Land. "We may not get there; we may not actually find it."

Rev. Jha nodded and said: "But we can be part of building it."
