$50,000 Set as Goal for Friends of the Conference Appeal

The Connecticut Conference recently sent out it's annual Friends of the Conference appeal, and is hoping to increase participation to raise more than $50,000.

The Conference raised $41,800 in 2017, a jump from $37,300 in 2016. In 2015, more than $42,000 was raised.

Money donated to Friends of the Conference helps supplement income received through Our Church's Wider Mission Basic Support and per capita contributions from churches to help the Conference carry out existing ministries and develop important strategies moving forward.

In this year's appeal letter, Conference Minister the Rev. Kent Siladi, lifts up the focus on living the love and justice of Jesus:
Dear Colleagues:
Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good."
― Maya Angelou, Celebrations: Rituals of Peace and Prayer
I am writing to invite you to join me in making a financial gift for this year’s Friends of the Conference appeal.  Maya Angelou reminds us that thanksgiving and faith are deeply intertwined and allow us to demonstrate to the world our shared values.
This past June we agreed to form a new Conference of the United Church of Christ with our siblings from the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Conferences.  We are united in our common vision that we are called to “live the love and justice of Jesus.”  We are building a new Conference that centers on:
  • The local church which exists to make disciples of Jesus;
  • Making God’s love and justice real;
  • Bringing new life as agents of change and;
  • Forming covenantal partnerships with those seeking the common good.
Your support of this year’s Friends of the Conference will help us carry out our existing ministries and develop the important strategies and faithful response to align with our vision and our values.  These are exciting and challenging times to be in partnership with one another and we can be the “bridge to overcome evil and welcome good.”
I am grateful for our shared witness and the ministries that are exercised every single day by our churches in communities across our state.  Your financial support is a sign that while we may not be perfect, we can together strive to make a difference through our Conference ministries.
I appreciate you prayerfully considering making a gift to this year’s Friends of the Conference!
