LGBT Asylum: Building Bridges of Hope

LGBT Asylum: Building Bridges of Hope

Share
The LGBT Asylum Task Force hosted its third annual Gala themed "Building Bridges of Hope" on October 5 at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA.  It was a sold-out event at which 500+ supporters dined, danced, and listened to the remarkable journeys of some of the LGBTQ asylum seekers the Task Force is supporting.

The Gala was an event like none other! Asylum seekers shared personal stories about the impact the LGBT Asylum Task Force has had on their lives. They spoke about the hope that the task force offered, love of neighbor inspired, as they went through the stressful process of leaving their countries, family, and friends behind; figuring out the complex asylum process; and being provided with the tools necessary to be successful in their new beginnings.
There was even a same-sex wedding between two asylum seekers who had always dreamed of one day being able to marry the woman that they loved!

The next Gala will be on October 10, 2020. Be sure to check out lgbtasylum.org for more information.

The Task Force is a ministry of Hadwen Park Congregational Church, UCC (Worcester, MA) that offers housing, food, and a connection to pro bono attorneys, medical, and mental health resources to LGBTQ people fleeing persecution in their home countries.
