Following the many (and intense) town discussions on the controversial plastic bag ban in Shrewsbury, a member of Trinity Church of Northborough decided to move forward in a positive manner.
"I am collecting bags to create woven, waterproof plastic mats for the homeless," said Sabina Terrades. "The Worcester Fellowship is excited by the project as these mats are extremely useful, especially with the Fall and Winter coming."
Terrades says the first step is collecting the bags - each mat requires about 500. She is asking for donations of bags and may be able to arrange pickup if you're nearby. The next step is to cut the bags and turn them into "yearn" to prepare them for knitting or crocheting into mats.
Additional volunteers are welcome to help with any of this process - no skill required! Join forces with this congregation to help create dozens of these sleeping mats for people without homes. Interested? Contact Sabina Terrades at sterrades@hotmail.com or 508-450-1614.
