This training covers a number of key areas including how citizens can effectively communicate with 9-1-1 operators, stay safe in a dangerous situation, stop life-threatening bleeding, position the injured, and provide emotional support.  With these basic skills, citizens can play a part in being a part of the solution during an emergency. This workshop is open to all.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Rhodes of Nashua, NY:  "At any emergency scene, especially before first responders arrive, we want citizens to be very aware of their safety. This training will teach citizens to have situational awareness if they are trying to help others and how to keep themselves safe until help arrives."

The program is a partnership between the Nashua Office of Emergency Management, Nashua Police Department, Nashua Fire Rescue, American Medical Response, and the Nashua Division of Public Health & Community Services and is based on a national curriculum developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Bystanders in emergencies are the first care providers. Some bystanders step up to help with nothing more than courage, some make the call for help, others either turn away or take pictures with cell phones.
We can help prepare the general public to act in emergencies, make the call, and save a life!

After the course, participants are welcomed to teach the course on their own. All materials including Power Points are available.
