In the introduction to their book, Embracing Stewardship: How to Put Stewardship at the HEART of Your Congregation’s LIFE, Charles Lane and Grace Duddy Pomroy write,

"We struggled a bit to come up with the title of this book. After a few iterations we finally settled on Embracing Stewardship. After God created the world, God made humanity the steward of all creation. We are all stewards. The goal of congregational stewardship should not be to “make people stewards” but help them recognize that they already are stewards and grow into becoming good stewards of all that God has entrusted to their care.

"Our prayer for you and for those in your congregations is that you will not just accept, but embrace your role as a steward. Stewardship is central to who we are as Christians – it connects our faith on Sunday to our life on Monday. Embrace stewardship, not as a committee, but as a ministry that pervades all aspects of congregational life."

This book discussion continues our series for the SNEUCC Stewardship Book Group. Discussions are facilitated by Rev. Mary Nelson, Regional Minister for South Central Connecticut, and David Cleaver-Bartholomew, Transitional ACM for Stewardship and Financial Development.

The group meets via Zoom and is not just open to all, but invites all, clergy and lay alike, who want to learn about - and discuss with colleagues - recent thinking and best practices in the areas of stewardship and fundraising, with the goal of improving and developing stewardship in your church.

The meeting dates and sections for discussion are:

  • Oct. 26 - pp. 3-52
  • Nov. 9 - pp. 55-87
  • Nov. 23 - pp. 89-118
  • Dec. 7 - pp. 119-142

The discussion sessions begin at 7 PM and will be recorded for later viewing, if you can’t attend or have to miss a session(s).
