Dear UCC Churches in Southern New England,

Greetings! I invite you to join me for a special event on the evening of Thursday, June 9, in West Hartford. As you may know, last year we announced that Professor Amy-Jill Levine would join our faculty as the Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies. Professor Levine is a Jewish scholar renowned for her work in New Testament. Indeed, she is a prolific author and her work on Jesus as a Misunderstood Jew has been instrumental in helping the church overcome antisemitism – in our pulpits and our everyday thinking as Christians. I personally have learned much from her and consider it an immense honor that she has joined us at HIU.

The Inaugural Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professorship Lecture is titled: “Agreeing to Disagree: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Scripture Differently”. It will take place at Beth El Temple (additional details are in the attached flyer). I hope you will join us. You can register here:

If you have never set foot in a synagogue, or even if you have but would like to build bridges with members of our local Jewish community in West Hartford, this is a great opportunity to do so.

Thanks, and I hope to see you there.
