Why Are You Doing This?

Mark 11: 3-7 (NRSV)

If anyone says to you, "Why are you doing this?" just say this, "The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately." ' They went away and found a colt tied near a door, outside in the street. As they were untying it, some of the bystanders said to them, 'What are you doing, untying the colt?' They told them what Jesus had said; and they allowed them to take it. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it; and he sat on it.

Reflection:

In this world that we live in, one of the most common questions we are asked is WHY? Why do you do the things you do? Why do you go to the places that you go to?

While it is not easy to ignore the questions, remember that before you take action, before you do the things you do, before you go to the places you go to, you should ask yourself why? Why are you going there?

Before the unnamed disciples ventured away from the group hunting for a colt, Jesus spoke to them and entrusted them with a charge: GO, FIND, UNTIE and BRING. And if you are asked why, say that the Lord needs it and will send it back. Has God given you a charge? If the answer is yes, know that you have at your disposal the necessary tools to accomplish that responsibility.

I know it might sound trivial, but when God sends you, you have a job to do. And each word that you utter should be based on that!

Prayer:

Spirit Divine, give us the words and the wisdom to be your servants. Gift us love for your community, remind us that what we do to the least of your children we do to you. Energize us for the work ahead. Give us tears of compassion and hearts made uncomfortable to the injustices that we witness. Amen.
