Youth Director of Second Congregational Church of Greenwich, UCC.

The Second Congregational Church of Greenwich, United Church of Christ is seeking a part-time Youth Director (approximately 10-15 hrs/week) to redevelop and oversee its Middle and High School Youth Groups, beginning August 1, 2022. The Youth Director will create opportunities for Christian fellowship and faith formation for students in 6th-12th grade, developing “stand-alone” programs and collaborating with church committees for intergenerational experiences.

We want our groups to provide our young people: creative and meaningful experiences of community service, space to reflect on events of the day, time to ask questions about life and faith and to process the events of their lives, and the chance just to have fun. Whatever the activity, we seek to offer a safe, accepting environment that invites a wide range of young people in a spirit of extravagant welcome.  Developing relationships with neighboring UCC youth groups would also be encouraged, where possible.

Program organization, facilitation and implementation includes: 1x per week for middle school youth and 1x per week for high school youth, at times to be decided with participants, parents and supervisors (historically Friday nights/Sunday afternoon or evening).  When appropriate, groups can be combined.
Additional stipend opportunities may be available for retreats and spring/summer mission trips.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment of program participants from 6th-12th grade from within and outside the church. Provide creative and effective strategies for outreach and to engage youth 6th-12th grade and to create an inclusive and vibrant faith formation environment at 2CC. • As we rebuild after over two years of limited programming due to COVID, we foresee the need for active outreach each week to participants and their parents for optimal participation via email or phone/text.  Weekly supervision/check in with the Senior Minister or Minister of Care and Connection for feedback on optimal engagement, program development, and creating discipleship.
