Minister of Music (Organist/Pianist/Choir Director
South Congregational Church, United Church of Christ; East Hartford, CT 06118
$20,000 - $25,000 a year; part time
|South Congregational Church of East Hartford, United Church of Christ, an open and affirming church, seeks a part-time (15-20 hours per week) Minister of Music. We believe that music is an essential aspect of the Sunday morning worship experience – it is part of the vocabulary we use in communicating with God. Thus, we seek not only a musician but also a minister to nurture and enrich our gifts in lifting our voices and offering our praises as a choir and as a congregation. We seek an individual who can offer leadership and guidance, especially at this turning point in time when the world has entered an increasingly hopeful phase in the pandemic.
The Minster of Music, as a member of the professional staff, will work harmoniously and cooperatively with the senior pastor, staff and volunteer choir. Our choir consists of 12-15 members of varying skill (we have no paid soloists). Additionally, we have a volunteer hand chimes group for which leadership would be desirable, though not required. The Minster of Music’s primary responsibilities are to direct our volunteer choir as well as plan and provide music for worship (the sanctuary houses both a Brodmann piano and a 2-manual Austin Organ with electronic contacts).
We seek a person with a BA or equivalent education. Musical experience in a church setting is desired. We believe that excellent interpersonal skills, the capacity to manage conflict, and the ability to create community are essential to the position. Compensation will be based on the education and experience of the candidate. Vacation benefits are provided as a component of compensation.
Please send a resume with cover letter.
