TITLE: Minister of Faith Formation Team Leader
REPORTS TO: Executive for Missional Implementation

POSITION SUMMARY: The Minster of Faith Formation is responsible for developing disciples and equipping them for the ministries within the Southern New England Conference UCC and beyond.

The Minster of Faith Formation Team Leader serves the God we know in Jesus Christ through the United Church of Christ by providing an environment and a culture that embodies the 4-part vision of the Southern New England Conference to: Make disciples of Jesus Christ; Make God’s love and justice real; Bring new life as agents of change; and form covenant partnerships with an emphasis on making disciples of Jesus.

  • Serves as the Faith Formation Team Leader, providing leadership and performance enhancement opportunities for team members.
  • Works in partnership with the Innovation Team to develop new ministry resources to support churches as they explore new ways to do worship, to be disciples and to do faith formation
  • Works with local churches and Associations in developing and equipping faith formation ministries and best practices for the development of disciples of all ages
  • Develops faith formation curricula/resources and curating these to meet the needs of churches and various age groups as they seek to make disciples of Jesus
  • Provides programming and training events in faith formation
  • Builds intergenerational ministries and worship resources as well as intentional relationship building strategies among the whole people of God, partnering with the SNEUCC Community Organizer to develop those strategies
  • Builds and cultivates youth ministries in the local churches and Conference
  • Provides tools for discernment with youth and young adults to help them discern how God might be using them in the effort to make God’s love and justice real.
  • Utilizes technology for effective teaching and communication
  • Works collaboratively with the wider church
  • Resources churches around safe conduct training
  • Develops consultations around: Formational children’s ministry; intergenerational formation; Journey and Rite of Confirmation;Children in the worshipping community; parents nurturing faith
  • Interfaces and collaborates with Outdoor Ministries
  • Develops networks of connection in Faith Formation and Youth Ministries
  • Develops innovations in worship and spiritual practices
  • Other duties as assigned
  • BA degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and experience in, the work of unmasking, dismantling and eradicating racism.
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills.
  • Ability to identify gifts of staff, clergy and lay leaders and invite their participation in the aspects of this work for which they seem gifted and called.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with people of many backgrounds, cultures and ancestries and to facilitate bridge-building collaborations.
  • General knowledge of traditions and culture of the United Church of Christ.
  • Facility with Microsoft Word and Outlook; ability to learn to use Brick River database and Conference Website console.
  • Given that the position requires travel throughout the region, adequate transportation is expected.
  • This position does not require seminary education or ordination;
  • Demonstrated ability to speak to congregations about justice from a Christian perspective.
SALARY: $59,000 -$69,000 depending on relevant credentials and experience

BENEFITS: In order to be eligible for Conference provided benefits, an employee must work at least 28 hours per week.

Health, Dental and Vision: That the Southern New England Conference provides a full array of health benefits, provided by the UCC Pension Board, Plan A. With a belief in cost sharing, the Conference will pay 85% of the cost of individual health coverage, and 80% of the additional incremental cost of family coverage, for all those who are eligible for and elect such coverage.

Pension:The Conference will contribute 14% of salary basis to the pension plan of the UCC Pension Boards.

Life and LTD Insurance: All eligible employees will be enrolled in the Pension Boards Life & LTD insurance at Conference expense.
