Director of Youth and Family Ministry—First Church Amherst (First Congregational in Amherst), UCC, Amherst, MA

What:

An engaging, challenging, and rewarding part-time position to lead a team of talented and experienced volunteers to work with children, youth, and their families to nurture a loving and inclusive community, to grow spiritually, and to engage the world purposefully to promote peace, justice, and compassion.  This part-time position offers flexible hours and benefits (vacation, health insurance premium support, holidays), work with other dynamite staff, and engagement with members of a congregation that is actively committed to make the world a better place.

Who You Are:

Someone who sustains a passion for kids; someone who has a heart for their spiritual growth in the liberal Christian tradition; someone who can inspire a team of talented volunteers and families in sustaining and growing current programs and imagining new ones; and someone who shares our vision for children and youth:

“The Children and Family Ministry Team seeks to provide our children and youth the opportunity to learn about the teachings of Jesus and the stores of faith from both the New and Old Testaments.  We hope to do this in an atmosphere of openness and questioning so that our young people might come to their own understanding of these teachings and stories.  We strive to show through our words and deeds what the connections are between the stories and teachings and our ministries of peace, justice, anti-racism, care for the earth, and inclusiveness of all people and kindness toward all.  We want to include them actively in our ministries wherever possible.  Furthermore, we hope to make the experience of church school and other church activities fun and engaging.”
