The Agawam Congregational Church has an immediate need for a Director of Music Ministries to direct the Church choir and provide piano and/or organ music during Sunday worship service and special occasions.
The Church sanctuary features an Emmons Howard pipe organ, late model Kawai upright piano, electric keyboard, and dual screen projection system. Our choir has 12 members with varying musical abilities and we have a well stocked library of music both old and new. The New Century Hymnal and Pilgrim Hymnal are used for congregational singing as well as a variety of praise music.
Duties include playing the piano and/or organ for Sunday worship and special services (Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve), first refusal for weddings and funerals; accompanying and directing the choir (piano and/or organ); selecting preludes, postludes, anthems and hymns; working collaboratively with the pastor for planning all services, and for long-range planning for the music program. On campus duties include choir rehearsal and service on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, other choir rehearsals at a mutually agreed upon time (traditionally Thursday evenings), and occasional attendance at other meetings as agreed upon.
The season for the choir generally begins on the Sunday following Labor Day and concludes in early June. The Director of Music Ministeries also provides and/or coordinates music during summer worship services and is responsible for coordinating substitute music for off Sundays. Salary is negotiable.
