Acton Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) is a dynamic, forward-looking, mission-oriented, spirit-filled, Open and Affirming congregation located in the historic center of Acton MA. We are a congregation of 450 members and families with a passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are seeking a part-time Director of Family Ministries to provide overall leadership in the educational/formational ministry to our church families, including oversight, guidance, and resources for all aspects of the Sunday School (birth-6th grade) (note: we have about 90 children enrolled and average 25 attendees each week- update this information).
Hours:15-20 hours/week, part-time

Lead the evaluation and selection of curriculum and resources to be used in Family ministries. The Family Ministries Team currently uses Godly Play and offers two interactive programs. “Care for Creation (1st -4th grades) is an outdoor faith formation program that invites children and volunteers to connect with God through nature. This program runs from September – December once a month. The Bible Scholars program (5th-6th grades) currently meets virtually on the second Sundays of the month and is based on the SparkHouse Re-form curriculum. Post-pandemic, Sunday offerings to children and families are expected to be in-person on Sunday mornings and, occasionally, on other weekdays.
Supervise Sunday morning programming and adapt curriculum and weekly lesson plans as needed to fit environment, volunteer base, class sizes, and activities.
Attend weekly staff meetings as schedule allows, work with office staff to provide information about family programs. This includes the Sunday bulletin and other church communication platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, website, and bi-monthly church newsletter.
Coordinate enlistment of volunteer teachers, leaders, and parent superintendents to provide children’s programming each week, supported by high school and Confirmand “shepherds.” Conduct training and provide guidance and support as needed.
Get to know ACC families and offer materials to support faith education as needed (i.e. handouts for holidays, books for Children’s Library, etc.)
Coordinate high school and Confirmand “Shepherd” (aide) program and train teenage aides.
Maintain regular communication with families regarding children’s educational/formational opportunities and needs and to enlist their participation and support. Manage monthly Constant Contact communication to families regarding logistics of the coming week’s programming.
Work closely with Senior Minister on helping children and families take an active part in worship and in the wider ministries of the church.
Create and organize special annual events and “Milestone programs” with parent volunteers – e.g. Christmas Pageant, Christmas Eve Family Service, 2nd grade Bible presentation, among others.
Identify creative ways to build engaging virtual programs as well as safe distant opportunities for fellowship.
Oversee children’s ministry budget and prepare the annual report for church school and other program areas.
Liaise with Family Ministry Team (FMT) and attend monthly meetings.
Liaise with Safe Church Committee and support Safe Church policies.
Supervise and train paid nursery staff. Work with FMT/parents to hire new nursery staff.
Be present on Sunday mornings and have the flexibility to meet with parents during the week. ACC offers the Director a few Sunday mornings off throughout the church program year.
