The Opportunity
The Church Administrator is responsible for managing the business office, communications, and facilities of the church. They are the day-to-day face of the church office for members and the primary point of contact for inquiries from the wider community including the church’s many renters. The Church Administrator is cordial and professional in all interactions and understands the need for confidentiality with regard to member information. They are efficient and creative, working with pastoral staff and lay leaders to consistently improve procedure and practice. The Church Administrator reports to the Senior Minister and supervises the Office Assistant/Bookkeeper, Custodial Staff, and occasional contractors. This position works in cooperation with the Senior Minister, Minister for Youth and Families, Office Assistant/Bookkeeper, Custodian, Church Officers and Lay Leaders.

Your key responsibilities
  • Supervise office and building facility staff
  • Orchestrate daily operations of the church as per its policies and directives
  • Interact with ministers, staff, committee chairs, church members, renters and general public on a daily basis and respond to the needs of each group
  • Direct the management of two church buildings including facility rentals and the coordination of minor and major maintenance, repairs and improvements of the church
  • Compile, edit, print, and circulate church-wide communications
  • Maintain detailed records of membership, financial contributions, and building inventory
  • Oversee the church calendar and scheduling of church events, maintenance and facility projects, outside rentals including terms of use
  • Maintain church database containing personal and financial information
  • Participate in meetings of the Church Board, Finance Team and Property Team and execute action items arising from meetings. Keep updated files on monthly agendas and minutes
  • Support the Ministers with communications, special projects, event planning, and re-configuring of building spaces
  • Manage office and facility machines and equipment, handle annual maintenance contracts, repairs and purchase office and building supplies
  • Partner with accounting to oversee budget, monthly report distribution, pledges, incoming and outgoing funds, and payroll
  • Prepare the Annual Report, financial and statistical reports for the church community and the national United Church of Christ denomination
To qualify you must have
  • Excellent organizational and people management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong record-keeping abilities
  • Ability to work independently within both fixed and emergent priorities
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including but not limited to: Google Suite; Microsoft Word and Excel; and video conferencing (e.g. Zoom)
  • Facility with online communications, including but not limited to: Constant Contact, Weebly, various social media platforms
  • Comfortable with Church Windows or similar data management systems

What we offer
Competitive compensation package commensurate with experience; salary beginning at $54,000/year; vacation time; opportunity to participate in health/dental/vision insurance plan
40 hours per week, divided between regular office hours, occasional meetings with contractors outside of regular office hours, and 2-3 evening meetings per month with church committees
