First Congregational Church of Milton, MA (United Church of Christ)
Hours: Part time, based on 15 hrs/week over 12 months with lighter summer hours.
(approx. 18 hrs/week during 40-week school year, 5 hrs/wk during summer)
Option to work from home with flextime. Must work on Sundays. Reports to: Pastor, and works in close partnership with Board of Christian Education.
First Congregational Church of Milton, MA, is an open and affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ. We are seeking a Minister of Youth, who will lead our growing youth program.
We are a congregation primarily comprised of families with children. We have a large Sunday school program and recently our youth program has experienced significant growth. We are seeking a leader to help us take the next step.
We have just completed construction on a state of the art 3,000-sq.-ft. youth room, which is being operated in cooperation with the Town of Milton. This job provides an opportunity to lead a church youth program, but also for substantial outreach to and partnership with the wider community to support the well-being of youth in our town.
Working with the oversight of the Board of Christian Education: plan, coordinate, organize, support, and lead programs for middle and high school youth.
Hold weekly youth group meetings at a standard day and time during the school year.
Plan and lead a variety of programs for youth, including spiritual formation, community
building, leisure, and service.
Coordinate community use of the youth room and community partnerships to support the well- being of youth in our community.
Attend Sunday morning worship services and encourage the attendance of youth at worship.
Support the youth in planning and leading worship on Children and Youth Sunday, and work
with the pastor in planning intergenerational worship services.
Communicate and promote all activities and correspond with parents, youth and the congregation as appropriate using a variety of mediums, including social media, email, posters, mailings, newsletter, etc.
Attend monthly Board of Christian Education Committee meeting.
Plan and review annual budget with the Board of Christian Education, and discuss needs and requirements as well as future goals for the program.
Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in Christian Education and Youth Ministry and share insights with the Board of Christian Education.
The ideal candidate is a spiritually mature person with excellent communication skills and a desire to engage in the life of the congregation to help strengthen and grow our programs for youth.
We seek someone who is invested in helping our youth to cultivate their own faith, in fostering a safe and supportive community, and in helping youth explore how God is calling them to live out their faith in the wider world.
A bachelor's degree in a related field and related experience OR direct experience.
A personal commitment to the Christian faith, and an ability to share that faith authentically in a way that encourages the faith of others.
An understanding of, and commitment to, the church’s mission.
Experience in teaching, group facilitation, and/or youth ministry. Experience in administration and supervision.
Proficiency with basic computer programs and social media platforms.
Strong administrative, communication, leadership, and motivational skills
Academic training in education or theology.
General marketing perspective that will assist with the continued growth and development of our educational programs.
Experience in the church in either volunteer or professional position

For candidates who are ordained or seeking ordination, this position may offer opportunities for preaching, the administration of the sacraments, and providing pastoral support to the congregation as appropriate.
Interested and qualified candidates may combine this job with the available Minister of Children and Families position for additional hours and a larger portfolio.
