Friends,
A half dozen years ago New England had two back-to-back storms each of which dumped a foot of rain into our area. We became familiar with the work of helping families recover from flooded basements, homes, streets and lives. It was a long road as we partnered with other denominations and non-profits to clean out mud, reverse the growth of mold and return homes to livable condition.
As we watch the news of the floods in Louisiana, even with our memory of the impact here, it is hard to imagine what these folks are going through and what they will face in the days, months and years to come. Here in our MACUCC, we were blessed by the guidance and funds from our United Church of Christ. And that is already happening in Louisiana and the surrounding region. You can read about disaster recovery support here.
One of the great things about being part of a denomination is that we have the mechanisms and partnerships already in place to get resources as quickly and effectively as possible to the folks who most need them. And because of your gifts to the mission and ministry of our United Church of Christ (OCWM and UCM), all of the funds we send for this recovery effort go directly to those needs.
Keep your eyes on the website for updates of the work that our United Church of Christ is doing in Louisiana and beyond on our behalf, and generously send them both your prayers and gifts through these links.
Blessings,
Don Remick
