Taking Action on Environment at Immanuel

Taking Action on Environment at Immanuel

I am excited that Immanuel Congregational Church UCC in Hartford is hosting Jim Antal on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at our 10 a.m. service with a talk afterward.  Our Environmental Action worked hard to schedule him as close to Earth Day as possible. He was the Former Massachusetts Conference Minister who worked closely with Bill McKibbon to get our Federal Government to realize that care for creation, our environment, is a key issue facing our country and our world today.

I talked with the Rev. Gordon Bates many years ago when he worked with the Connecticut Conference, UCC.  Under his leadership, the conference began its Green Ministry Team.  That team assembled a set of actions that churches could take to be acknowledged for their work in greening their places of worship or making their environmental footprint smaller — The Green Church Award.
Many of us have visited these churches and presented them with framed awards that they can hang proudly on their walls.  We have done a lot, but there is much more to do.  A group of us at Immanuel read and studied Jim Antal's book "Climate Church, Climate World." On Sunday we will have an opportunity to dialogue with him on how we can take further action to protect the planet for our children and grandchildren.
I have met Jim Antal personally when I attended meetings at the MA Conference. I was also an attendee at the Old South Church Environmental Conference that included all the New England states and even part of New York.

Hearing Jim Antal, in my estimation, is an opportunity to deepen our faith in a God who works with us and for us.  We invite you to join us.
