Let’s Be The Church!

On Monday I sent out an invitation to the clergy of the Rhode Island Conference UCC just as my colleague, Rev. Don Remick of the southeastern region of the Massachusetts Conference UCC, sent out a similar invitation to clergy in the RI Conference and the Southeastern Region of MA. That email invitation read:

It has been less than a week since the election.  We have each gathered in our churches for worship.  We’ve listened to the responses from friends, family and neighbors both local and global.  And we’ve watched the news unfold from mainstream to social media.  And I am still certain in the wake of our national elections of the need for conversation: a conversation that offers a chance to process our feelings and think through some ways to faithfully respond.  Our UCC has a great banner called “Be The Church”   It asserts some common values that I believe we and our brothers and sisters, both ecumenically and interfaith, might embrace:
  • Be the Church
  • Protect the environment.
  • Care for the poor.
  • Embrace diversity.
  • Reject racism.
  • Forgive often.
  • Love God.
  • Fight for the powerless.
  • Share earthly and spiritual resources.
  • Enjoy this life.
So, let’s gather.  Based on feedback we will hold this round of gatherings for clergy.  If you have colleagues in your community who would appreciate a chance to join this conversation bring them along.  There are 3 dates and 3 requests:

Where and When:
  • Tuesday, November 15, 9:30 – 11:30 AM at Old South Union, 25 Columbian Street, Weymouth, MA
  • Tuesday, November 15, 1:30 – 3:30 PM at Dennis Union 713 Main Street (Route 6A)  Dennis, MA ,
  • Thursday, November 17 9:30 – 11:30 AM at Seekonk,  600 Fall River Avenue   Seekonk, MA
 3 Requests:
  • Feel free to bring a snack to share, we’ll provide cider and donuts
  • Feel free to bring any resources that you have found or crafted that you believe will be helpful
  • Please RSVP to Goodmanm@macucc.org  ASAP just to give us a sense of numbers.
Blessings to all,

Rev. Don Remick (Assoc. Conference Minister: Serving the Southeast Area, MA Conference UCC) and
Rev. Barbara Libby (Interim Conference Minister: Serving the RI Conference UCC)
